Our Publisher

It should come as no surprise that Steve Azzato chose Quiet Light Publishing as the company to make his project come to life. Its founder and principal is Richard Mack, himself an award winning photographer. Richard’s incredible landscapes along the Lewis and Clark Trail or in the Great Smoky Mountains have been variously called, ‘rapturous’, ‘beautifully rendered’, ‘serene’ and ‘absolutely gorgeous’. Photography and publishing awards have been many and include the prestigious New York Book Awards, The Benjamin Franklin Book Awards, a couple of Eric Hofer Book Awards and the International Photographer of the Year Awards – Best Nature Book 2006.

A mutual friend introduced the two photographers and the kinship was immediate. “I knew of Richard’s amazing talent as a photographer and once I saw the books produced by his company, my decision was made”, said Azzato. Likewise, Mack was equally keen to take on Their Love of Music at QLP after meeting Steve and seeing his work. “Several things drew me to Steve’s work. First, the expressionism found in his portraits which pull into each frame something about the individual. But he also clearly listens well when interviewing and draws out intimate details of what makes them pursue their own careers in music.” Mack added that “the blend of Steve’s artistry as a photographer and as a person able to connect with others, leads to a wonderful combination which lets the reader into the lives of his subjects in a way I have never seen before. And that makes for a great book.”

Their Love of Music is QLP’s first non-traditional-landscape book but given Mack’s eye for the expression of the serenity and essence of a subject, the “landscape” of music is well captured and presented in the portraits and words of the musicians included in this book.

What a fantastic pairing this has turned out to be!

And be sure to check out Richard’s work at .
